58 Survivors Start Their Journey To Healing, Restoration, and Freedom

In the Philippines, 58 survivors started their journey to healing, restoration, and freedom.

“This is a huge first step for victims of trafficking and exploitation on their road to freedom, and we are honored to be part of their journey. There is so much energy and anticipation as survivors are paired with their counselors and as they connect with others in the program,” says our Local Partner Deputy Country Director Janice Ubaldo, Philippines.

These survivors are being supported with opportunities to learn and grow in self-awareness, self-confidence, coping with stress, and developing self-discipline.

In this region, 25% of new clients are survivors of online sexual exploitation. This statistic reflects the recent spike in cybersex trafficking we witnessed during the most severe lockdowns of the pandemic.

Reports of online sexual exploitation in the Philippines tripled between March to May 2020, and our Local Partners are now managing the devastating effects of sexual violence and trauma on young women.
